Passport.app privacy policy

What is it?

passport.app is a convenience app that provides you with a quick, easy, secure and privacy-friendly way to store a copy of your passport on your phone. This can be helpful to assert your identity in case of passport loss or theft. The application will remind you of pending expiry and will facilitate renewing your passport. There will be more exciting use cases coming soon. The information in this privacy notice only relates to “passport.app”. Information collection and use

All information that is collected in the application remains only on your mobile device unless you decide to share it with a third-party using communications apps such as email, whatsapp and others.

If you possess several passports you can add them all, you can also add the passport of your travel mates, or family members.

How is your passport scanned?

We use software that is resident on your phone. The software is capable of real-time recognition of the passport in a video stream. The data processing takes place locally on your device; the data is stored inside the passport app on your device. No data is transferred from the device during the scanning process.

How is your information kept secure?

We use the default protection feature of your device. For example, if you have FaceID on your iPhone enabled, you will need to use it to access your information.

Where is your information stored?

Your information is only stored on your own device. If you back-up your phone then passport.app and its content will be backed-up also with the security put in place for back-ups by your mobile operator, your operating system provider and/or phone manufacturer.

Do we store your information, do we have access to your information?

We do not make a copy of your information; your information is only stored on your own device. We do not have access to your information.

Information sharing

You alone decide when and how to share your information. You are responsible for the consequences arising from the receiving party mis-using your information or sharing or storing your information further.

Deleting your information

By deleting your passport, all information in relation to that passport will be deleted. By deleting the application, all information about all passports inside the application will be deleted.

Analytics

Understanding how people use our app is essential. We need to know what is working, and what is not, so we can improve. As a business, we need to know how many people are using our app, where they are in the world, and which features are most popular. We collect information about your device and your use of the passport.app using in-house and third-party analytics. We de-identify the information we collect so we cannot identify you personally. We also combine information so that no analytics report is ever about an individual user. We do not build individual profiles of the people who use our app. We simply look for trends and patterns to inform business decisions. You can opt out of certain analytics in the app. Some information is generated automatically when you use our products, and we cannot turn this off.

Crash reporting

By deleting your passport, all information in relation to that passport will be deleted. By deleting the application, all information about all passports inside the application will be deleted.We use Crashlytics — a service offered by Fabric — a company owned by Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.

Crashlytics provides us with information about crashes and malfunctions in our application.

In case of malfunction or failure, the following information is transmitted to Crashlytics:

  • IP-address of the device;
  • information about the device, such as: device ID, model and device type, name and version of the operating system, settings and language of the device;
  • version and functionality of the application;
  • time of failure.

Data transmitted to Crashlytics is neither stored, transferred to other services or resources, nor associated with other data available to Google.

The transfer of information about crashes and malfunctions to the Crashlytics service can be disabled in the Application settings
